GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) -- Guyanese authorities have banned a Jamaican reggae artist known for anti-gay lyrics from performing in the South American country.

Bounty Killer, performing in 2005, has faced opposition in Britain and Germany over anti-gay lyrics.

Interior Minister Clement Rohee said Bounty Killer is no longer welcome because gunfire erupted at an April 19 concert.

Rohee announced the ban Monday.

He said Bounty Killer's lyrics promote violence and celebrate criminal behavior.

The Guyanese official also banned the Jamaican singer Movado.

Bounty Killer concerts earlier were scrapped in Britain and Germany because of protests over lyrics that include references to killing homosexuals. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
