Web posted at: 1 a.m. EST (0600 GMT)WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Clinton's trip to the Middle East is a preliminary step toward a strategic anti-terrorism and intelligence agreement between the United States and Israel, sources told CNN Tuesday.
The subject was to be discussed when Clinton was in Israel after the summit. The sources would not confirm that an agreement would be announced in April.
No further details of the tentative agreement were available.
White House press secretary Mike McCurry has said in the past that the intelligence relationship between the two nations was being re-evaluated.
